Community Health
Resource Center
Individualized wellness platform for corporate clients.
Girls in Tech SF - Hacking for Humanity
I participated in the Girls in Tech SF’s hackathon, Hacking for Humanity 2022. This year’s theme was mental health. Together with 5 other teammates across different time zones and continents, we created a product for Community Health Resource Center, a nonprofit health center that serves the Bay Area community. We used Whatsapp and Zoom to communicate, Figma to ideate, wireframe, and design, and Canva for our presentation.

Community Health Resource Center
Community Health Resource Center (CHRC) provides a host of health and wellness services and was looking to launch a new service; fostering community health through corporate employee wellness programs. CHRC asked us hackers to develop an individualized wellness platform for corporate clients to order one or all of CHRC’s services for their employees, leading to a matched offering of community-based health services.
CHRC was looking for either an app or web-based product, focusing on ease of engagement for the end-user, and highlighting the community impact.
Problem Statement
The team had an insightful discussion on how we wanted to approach this project. We decided our unique value proposition should be a survey, that the user, most likely a benefits manager or HR representative, could send to the employees at their company, and choose CHRC services based on their employees’ responses. Oftentimes, employees are left out of the decision-making when it comes to their benefits. This way, the user would be able to know what their employees are looking for, rather than feeling the pressure to choose on their behalf.
User Research
Due to time constraints, we were not able to conduct a robust user research process. We did however, conduct a competitive audit, speak with an HR professional, and talk with our client.

Prototype
Being that this was my first hackathon, I went into that weekend with lots of excitement, and little expectations. A weekend full of networking, designing and collaborating left me invigorated and re-affirmed that this is the career I am meant to do. Of course, our group experienced bumps in the road along the way. Time was our biggest obstacle. In retrospect, we should have managed our time better, because in the end, we did not have the complete presentation we wished we had. If we had more time, we would have been able to fully flush out our designs, have a prototype ready, and have a more robust presentation.
Despite our bumps, I felt extremely accomplished working with a group of talented women. We all brought our talents and strengths to the group, and worked well together. I learned so much from my teammates, and am ready to take what I’ve learned into my next project.
